![]() In the months that follow the fire, Gillian is depressed and does not seem to be recovering from the trauma of the fire. ![]() In the first part of the book, Ellen Harger shows us her talent in the writing of emotional and though-provoking images. Ellen Harger’s descriptions of fire and its far-reaching destruction form some of the most eloquent prose in this book. ![]() They walked away with nothing but the clothes on their backs. This is exactly what happened to Gillian when a fire destroyed the home she shared with her husband. It takes a catalyst for our neat little world to be rocked to its core and shake us out of our comfort zone. Sometimes we just muddle through our lives without ever reflecting on our happiness, or lack thereof. I invite you to read my review, learn more about the author and enter to win your own copy. In 1816 (two centuries ago), she shamed Congress into supporting his seven orphaned children. She pursued him despite his illegitimacy, and loved him despite his infidelity. When she met Alexander, she fell head over heels. She was the well-to-do daughter of one of New York’s most exalted families-feisty, adventurous, and loyal to a fault. Adored by Washington, hated by Jefferson, Hamilton was a lightning rod: the most controversial leader of the American Revolution. Along the way he became one of the American Revolution’s most dashing-and unlikely-heroes. He went to America to pursue his education. Hamilton was a bastard son, raised on the Caribbean island of St. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the American Revolution, and featuring a cast of iconic characters such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and the Marquis de Lafayette, The Hamilton Affair tells the sweeping, tumultuous, true love story of Alexander Hamilton and Elizabeth Schuyler, from tremulous beginning to bittersweet ending-his at a dueling ground on the shores of the Hudson River, hers more than half a century later after a brave, successful life. ![]() ![]() Swanson surely knows how to do characterisation, build a perfect plot, keep you on the edge until the last moment. This book is great on so many levels that I don’t know where to start. ![]() I don’t think I’ll read a better one this year. So clever, so unpredictable, full of twists and turns. This book BLEW MY MIND! Best crime fiction I’ve read in a long time. ![]() I’d really recommend to read this book without reading a blurb to enjoy it to the full, so I’ll only give you the short description on Goodreads: From the hugely talented author of The Kind Worth Killing comes an exquisitely chilling tale of a young suburban wife with a history of psychological instability whose fears about her new neighbour could lead them both to murder. Well, in this case, this book is the Audi of thrillers for me □ It gives you all you can ask from a thriller/mystery: ![]() ![]() ![]() Good writing, good mechanics, too much recaping It's a happy prospect to be spending a good part of this winter with the Mac Leod Andrews and the Leandros boys. The narrator of book 1 wasn't dreadful, but not great either Andrews is pitch-perfect in tone and has created voices for the many human and non-human characters that are always right on the money. He gives perfect voice(s) to the Sandman Slim books and Sanderson's Steelheart series, among many others I'm thrilled that Audible has gotten him to perform books 2-9 of the Leandros books. ![]() ![]() Of course, it doesn't hurt to have the ever-fabulous MacLeod Andrews narrating. evil, scary monsters and super freaks, imaginative takes on age-old supernatural legends, a little romance, a little comedy, and lots of witty banter and a great, nicely fleshed-out, very real-feeling relationship between the brothers, Cal and Niko. Their adventures compare quite favorably with those (perhaps) more well-known series, with nice doses of epic battles of good vs. I've chewed my way through Dresden, Sandman Slim, Bobby Dollar, the Iron Druid, and many more that aren't as good, before stumbling across the Leandros brothers. ![]() ![]() My favorite part of dinner was the stuffing.
